Emilie here. I don’t have a real blog post for you today because I’ve been working so hard on my new top-secret putty project. Sorry about that, but I can assure you that it’ll be worth it. This project is going to do so much to show the world what a bunch of supposed “dilettantes” are capable of.
If you’ve been reading my weekly emails, you know what I’m eluding to…
On Wednesday, April 3, we will be unveiling Puttylabs: a Home for Multipotentialite Collaborations
Puttylabs will be a place where we can show the world what we’re creating. We will feature any artwork, inventions or who-knows-what-else-its that come out of the Puttytribe and are made by two or more multipotentialites. When I first had the idea for this site, my thought pattern went something like this: we’re a community full of people with random diverse talents who are wildly creative. We should be working together. Who knows what we could build!
Puttylabs will feature and promote the individual artists, and also help support them. We’ve decided to give 25% of all proceeds to a multipod-friendly non-profit organization and split the rest among the artists.
The First Collaboration: an Inspirational Poster
We’re launching the site with our very first collaboration. Here it is:
This poster is 16″ X 20″ and printed on heavyweight 7 mil semi-gloss paper.
This will provide the daily inspiration you need to help you pursue many paths and stay true to your multipotentialite nature. It also looks damn good hanging on my wall! :)
The Story Behind this Poster
“Why don’t we start with one project– a manifesto poster?” I suggested.
I threw out a line, Thea posted a line, Emma contributed a bunch of lines, and it went on like that until we had a dozen suggestions. I sat down with all of the suggestions, rearranged the lines and played. Proposed a full text. We cut it down, made it tighter.
Time for the graphic designers in the Tribe to swoop in. Four of them made prototypes with our text. They were beautiful. We all voted on our favorite.
3 weeks later, the poster arrived in the mail. My heart raced as I pulled it out.
I could not be prouder of our first creation.
So hold tight. Because this Wednesday, April 3 — in addition to being my 29th birthday — will mark the launch of Puttylabs and the release of the “We Are Multipotentialites” poster.
What projects would you like to see us create (or maybe be involved with yourself)?
Sky’s the limit as far as medium goes. It doesn’t even have to be “sellable.” As long as it can be featured on Puttylabs in some way, that’s all that matters. I would love to hear your ideas.
